The Human Need for Structure

It’s no wonder people seem a little lost and confused.

How do you navigate unfamiliar terrain without direction exactly?

Where should you go?

How do you get back to safety?

It would be a little bewildering, to be lost in the wild.

Life works in a similar vein.

To understand the terrain that you’re navigating.

Where you came from, where you’re going (and why).

Western modernity has given rise to an individual subject reality, leaving it all on you

You have been left to reconstruct the whole universe in your own image

To make up your own rules and impose your will on the nature of reality itself

But it’s difficult to tear down natural or social structures without replacing them with something solid

And herein lies the challenge.

To re-establish structure in a life that’s increasingly devoid of it.

To give your life some sense of direction, focus and order.

A structure that is based on truth, on some fundamental values and guiding principles.

Clearly establishing the rules you need to play by

A way of life that you commit yourself to, intentionally.

Being willing and able to commit to something much greater than yourself.

Having structure allows you to stay true to your convictions in every situation and clear on the boundaries you need to set.

And then to remain steadfast and consistent in your approach, having first established some strong foundations to ground yourself in.

Anything less, and you’d be selling yourself short.
