It’s in The Stories We Tell

Everything is a story.

How you view the world is very much dependent on the story you tell yourself.

And the underlying assumptions you hold

A narrative structure you need to be able to orientate yourself and make sense of things

Your whole belief system is predicated on the stories that you’ve adopted

So what happens if you find yourself playing a role in someone else’s film, if the story is not your story at all?

And if the story is repeated so many times and that you begin to believe it

Accept it as some fundamental truth about the world and your place in it.

What is the story you’re telling yourself?

Are you the victim or the hero, the success or the failure?

Are you alone, loved or loathed?

Is the world a horrible or beautiful place?

What role are you playing and in what kind of play?

Where do you fit in, how do you interact with the other characters and why?

How did your story begin and how will it ultimately end?

You’ll find a disconnect beginning to emerge when the actuality of your lived experience doesn’t reflect the story you’ve been telling yourself.

At which point, you have a decision to make.

The decision to double down and project that same story onto the world, or to look at restructuring your narrative all together.
