Trying To Fill the Void

Why is there always this sense that there’s something missing?

Like life is somehow, for some reason, incomplete.

Like you are somehow, for some reason, incomplete.

It doesn’t seem to matter what you do, or how much you accumulate, it’s never enough – there’s always this sense that there’s something missing.

The more you do, the bigger the void.

The more you have, the bigger the void.

You try to fill the void with whatever you can, but your efforts remain futile.

You try to escape that sense of emptiness, by burying yourself in our work.

By drinking or partying excessively,

By lashing out at our friends and family

By procrastinating, doing relatively unimportant things, just so we never have to face up to reality.

The reality that you, just like me, and everyone else is most likely in some state of denial.

In denial about what life is ultimately about.

All the while pretending we are living it, when in actuality we do everything in our power to avoid it.

Avoiding the fact that life calls on us to participate in it

Instead we make up all kinds of excuses, just so we never have to show up

And face up to the fact that this world demands something of you.

It may sound difficult, but who told you that life was meant to be easy?

Maybe the problem is that you’re always trying to take the easy way out.

The safe way.

But the truth of the matter is that the void will never be filled, until you take those parts that lay dormant within you, and finally awaken them.
