Hearing only your echo

We can scream whatever we want from the mountain tops
Become keyboard warriors
Signaling our virtue from a safe distance
All without ever taking the time to immerse ourselves in the issues.

It’s easy to flex, to say this or that,
Always playing poker with somebody else’s chips.
But what will you do, when reality comes knocking at your door?
When it’s you that has to put it all on the line.
How you will respond then?

You can keep on yelling into empty space, comforted by the echo of your own voice – or you can sharpen up and engage in a real battle of ideas.

Of course you can convince yourself that you’ve made a difference simply by re-sharing somebody else’s post.

But life is not a sound bite.
It’s not a meme, it’s not clickbait, nor a headline, or a tweet.
It’s not superficial, so it shouldn’t be engaged with superficially.

Virtue is not what you post in an instagram story
It’s lived, not proclaimed.

It may be wiser to immerse yourself in all sides of the issue before you go broadcasting your position to the world.

And if you’re not willing to do that, it may be wiser to not broadcast anything at all.
